Northrop Grumman collaborates with Ultra to demonstrate anti-submarine warfare capability from UAS

Northrop Grumman Corporation and UK-based Ultra equipped a modified, manned Bell 407 (acting as an MQ-8C Fire Scout surrogate) platform with Ultra sonobuoys, receiver and processor to complete an unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability demonstration.

US Navy completes first flight of next-gen air combat training system on F/A-18 Super Hornet

The Naval Aviation Training System and Ranges program office (PMA-205) recently completed the first flight test of its next-generation air combat training system, the Tactical Combat Training System Increment II (TCTS II), on an F/A-18F at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. The second flight test, the first for this system involving two aircraft, followed in quick succession using two F/A-18E aircraft.

Aerovel, makers of Flexrotor, the most advanced Group 2 unmanned aerial system (UAS) with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), announced strong reliability results for its latest Flexrotor variant. In demonstrations conducted for SOCOM (United States Special Operations Command) missions, Aerovel demonstrated over 150 cycles on the latest Flexrotor variant. Russian MoD receives three Ilyushin Il-76MD-90A airlifters

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) received three Ilyushin IL-76MD-90A heavy airlifters in 2020, according to the press department of the MoD. “In 2020, the Military Transport Aviation [MTA] command received three Il-76MD-90A heavy transport aircraft. Being a deeply upgraded variant of Ilyushin Il-76 [NATO reporting name: Candid] airlifter, the new air platform has some advantages provided by the new PS-90A engines, improved chassis and wing, and enhanced avionics,” said MTA Commander Lieutenant General Vladimir Benediktov.

Russia to supply Orlan-10E UAVs to Myanmar

According to the Russsian Ministry of Defense, Russia will supply Myanmar with Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and cannon systems, Orlan-10E unmanned aerial vehicles, and radar stations. The document was signed on January 22 in the presence of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, who is on an official visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hline.  On behalf of the Russian side, the agreement was signed by the deputy head of the Russian military department, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin.

IAI signs sale and lease contract with Asian country for Heron Mk II UAVs

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) signed a sale and lease contract for two Heron Mk II unmanned aerial vehicles with an undisclosed country in Asia, the company announced last week, echoed by The Jerusalem Post. Each system, including the UAVs, ground systems and sensors for collecting intelligence, costs tens of millions of dollars.

Eurofighter receives final offer request from Finland for F-18 replacement

On January 29, Eurofighter received a formal request from the Finnish Defence Forces to submit its Best and Final Offer (BAFO) to the HX fighter acquisition to replace the Finnish Air Force's F-18 Hornet aircraft.

Logos Technologies selected by US Army to develop low-signature airdrop system

Logos Technologies LLC, a leader in wide-area sensors and airborne processing systems, announced that it was awarded a Phase I development contract from the U.S. Army’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program to develop new approaches to significantly reduce the signature and increase the range of airdropped systems.

Lockheed Martin awarded Foreign Military Sales contract for large F-16 foreign fleets

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on January 29 that Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $64,266,809 supply contract for F-16 Foreign Military Sales (FMS) mission planning. This contract provides for the development, integration, test and delivery of the Joint Mission Planning System Unique Planning Component/Mission Planning Environment software updates. Work will be performed in Owego, New York, and is expected to be completed by January 2029.
