Airbus Helicopters Inc. wins $221 mn order to build 41 UH-72A Lakota helicopters for the US Army
 
Airbus Defense and Space Inc. was awarded a $220,564,993 contract to procure forty-one additionnal UH-72A Lakota light utility helicopters and forty-one Airborne Radio Communications 231 Radios. Estimated completion date is July 31, 2017. Work will be performed Columbus, Mississippi. US Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

The contracts brings the total number of Lakota helicopters ordered to 411, with the lion's share going to the U.S. Army, as well as five for the U.S. Navy and six for Thailand, said Airbus spokesman Jamie Darcy.

A total of 388 UH-72A Lakotas have been ordered so far, with deliveries being completed, and additional batch of rotorcraft are planned to be ordered in FY16.

The UH-72A Lakota is a military version of the Eurocopter (now Airbus Helicopters) EC145 helicopter and is built by Airbus Helicopters Inc. As a version of the technologically advanced and proven EC145 multi-mission helicopter, the UH-72A benefits from demonstrated performance in roles that range from law enforcement and emergency medical transportation to search and rescue (SAR), offshore utility operations and corporate transport.

The UH-72A Lakota is equipped with navigation and communication system which include VHF communication transceivers, dual VHF navigation receivers, DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) transceiver, RT-5000 wideband transceiver, P-2000 communication transceiver.
