UEC hands over first two TV7-117ST engines for the Il-112V military airlifter

The United Engine Corporation (UEC), part of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec, has handed over two prototype TV7-117ST engines to the Voronezh Aircraft Plant (VASO), the corporation’s press office said. The engines will be mounted on the first Ilyushin Il-112V light military transport plane, the press office added.

"The engines were delivered on time and in strict compliance with the contract signed between the United Engine Corporation and the Ilyushin Company. UEC workers will provide maintenance for the engines during their installation on the plane and the ground and flight development tests," the press office said.

According to the press office, the TV7-117ST engines have only Russian-made components and units.

The Il-112V light military transport plane with a cargo-carrying capacity of five tons is designed to transport military hardware, cargo and military personnel. The plane will replace the obsolete Antonov An-24 (NATO reporting name: Coke) and An-26 (Curl) aircraft.

UEC’s Klimov Company is developing the TV7-117ST turboprop engine for the Il-112V plane. The engine, together with the AV-112 propeller and the RSV-34S propeller control unit, will make up the advanced plane’s power plant. The AV-112 propeller and the RSV-34S propeller control unit have been developed by the Aerosila Company.

According to the press office, the TV7-117ST engine that is a new addition to the TV7-117 family incorporates cutting-edge technologies and design solutions.

The TV7-117ST is no inferior to its foreign-made rivals in terms of operational capabilities.

The engine has a capacity of 3,000 hp in the maximum takeoff mode and an emergency rating of up to 3,600 hp. The AV-112 propeller is highly effective and increases the power plant’s thrust.

The Klimov Company began the bench tests of the TV7-117ST engine in September 2016. The engine will be serial-produced by UEC subsidiaries, in particular, the Klimov, Chernyshev Machine-Building and Salyut Gas-Turbine Engineering Companies.
