The
EC225 Super Puma is a long-range heavy transport helicopter designed,
developed and manufactured by the French aviation Company Eurocopter
as the next generation in the civilian Super Puma family. Tailored for
the most demanding operators, the EC225 is an 11-ton helicopter integrating
all the latest technological innovations. The EC255 has been designed
to comply with the latest JAR 29 (Joint Aviation Requirements) amendments.
It integrates all the latest technological innovations to comply with
the most stringent technical and operational requirements for all types
of missions. The EC225 Super puma is marketed for offshore support and
VIP passenger transport duties, as well as public service missions.
Approximately 70 percent of the worldwide Super Puma fleet is operated
for personnel transport in support of the offshore oil and gas industry,
including EC225’s now in U.S. service with Era Helicopters. The
first EC225 for Era was delivered in February 2008, with seven more
to follow through 2010. These aircraft are equipped to carry 19 passengers,
offering the heavy-lift capacity and excellent range as oil industry
exploration and production moves further offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

The
EC225 is based on the Eurocopter AS332L2
Super Puma, improving upon the design with a five-blade
main rotor incorporating a new airfoil shape to reduce vibration levels.

The
two TURBOMECA MAKILA 2A1 engines, the main gear box and the 5-blade
rotor give EC225 Super puma the power for a high payload, along range
and a fast cruise speed. Its flight endurance exceeds 5 hours 30 min.
The 5-blade rotor provides an exceptionally low vibration level, and
the modular design of the mechanical assemblies allows for easier maintenance.
The EC225 has a maximum all-up weight with external load of 24,251 lbs.
and a useful payload of 12,609 lbs. Fast cruise speed is 142 kts., and
the helicopter has a sea-level range of 448 nm. with standard fuel,
extendable to over 600 nm. with optional fuel tanks. |

EC225 Super Puma also features significant advances in terms of man-machine
interface, insuring important information to pilot and therefore decision
making. The First Limit Indicator displays the available power in any
condition and the power margin in AEO (All Engines Operative) and OEI
(One Engine Inoperative) situations. |
