CFM International secures a $2bn DLA contract for F108 engine spart parts
 
CFM International Inc., a joint venture of Safran‘s aircraft engines unit and General Electric‘s aviation business, has been awarded an estimated $1,969,320,231 F108 turbofan aircraft engine replenishment spare parts, the US Department of Defense announced on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 on its website.

"This is a nine-month base contract with a four-year and a three-year option period. The maximum dollar amount is for the life of the contract. Locations of performance are Ohio and France, with an Oct. 31, 2024, performance completion date," the US DoD stated.

The using military services are the US Air Force and US Navy, the US DoD said.

The F108, dubbed CFM56 in its commercial version, is a family of two-spool high-bypass turbofan engines used for both commercial and military applications.

As of October 2016, CFM International delivered 29,500 CFM engines since 1974. The engine notably powers the 550 KC-135R Stratotankers the USAF has in service. The CFM56-2 series is the original variant of the CFM56. The variant powering the USAF KC-135R aircraft features 22,000 lbf of thrust.
