The consortium consisting of ENGIE Ineo as prime contractor and Airbus Defence and Space as co-contractor has been awarded the DESCARTES STCA contract to deliver a high-availability communications network to control the air operations of the French Ministry of Defence. This eight-year contract signed with the French defence procurement agency (DGA) is part of the DESCARTES programme.

The US Air Force 33rd Fighter Wing loaded and shot the first air-to-air missiles from an operational F-35A during a weapons system evaluation at Tyndall Air Force Base, Jan. 31, 2017, just two weeks after loading and releasing the first live air-to-ground weapons in Air Education and Training Command.

The US State Department has approved two Foreign Military Sale to the Republic of Korea for AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder, AGM-65G-2 Maverick, and related support, for an estimated cost of $140 million, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on Feb. 1, 2017.

Patria has purchased five training aircraft and two flight training simulators from the Austrian manufacturer Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH. The purchase consists of four single engine DA40 NG aircraft and one DA42-VI multi-engine training aircraft. Two Flight Navigation and Procedures Trainers (FNPT II) for DA42-VI aircraft are also included in the purchase. The fleet of single engine aircraft will be used for basic and instrument training, while the twin-engine DA42 will be used for multi-engine training.

CFM International Inc., a joint venture of Safran‘s aircraft engines unit and General Electric‘s aviation business, has been awarded an estimated $1,969,320,231 F108 turbofan aircraft engine replenishment spare parts, the US Department of Defense announced on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 on its website.

The production of Russian-made combat reconnaissance and attack Ka-52 helicopters will increase over two-fold in 2017 due to foreign orders, the press service of the Russian Helicopters Holding said. Last year then CEO of the Russian Helicopters Alexander Mikheyev said Russia signed a contract with Egypt for the delivery of 46 Ka-52. The press service later specified export supplies will begin in 2017.

Raytheon Company and the U.S. Air Force are developing a new signal processor for the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile under the Form Fit Function Refresh program, or F3R. The refresh will help ensure AMRAAM production well into the 2020s, the US-based missile manufacturer announced on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017.
