Russia to complete rebuilding of Rogachevo airfield in Arctic by late 2017
 
The Rogachevo airfield on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic will be rebuilt in late 2017, Russian Deputy Defense Minister General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov has told journalists. "Work is in progress at the Rogachovo airfield to expand and extend the runway and build the taxiways, ramp, aircraft anti-icing treatment area and other buildings and facilities. The airfield will be reconstructed in late 2017," the general said.

According to him, around 15 military and support facilities designed for the Russian troops stationed there will have been built in 2016 to boot.

"The development of the Russian Armed Forces infrastructure in the settlement of Yuzhny at the Novaya Zemlya archipelago is in full swing. The construction of the technical positions of air defense missile and air units, housing and support facilities and Rogachovo airfield is on schedule," Bulgakov noted.

According to the deputy defense minister, motor pools and utility lines are being built there now. A barracks for 100 personnel and a mess hall are in construction as part of the support facilities development. A duty watch building, a garage and a parade round are being built too.
