German head-of-state G5000 aircraft to be fitted with Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures
 
Northrop Grumman Systems Corphas been awarded a $28 million contract for integration and installation of Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures on Germany head of state G5000 aircraft. Contractor will provide aircraft protection technology from surface-to-air infrared missiles, the US Department of Defense announced on Sept. 29, 2016.

"Performance location will be announced in January 2017. Work is expected to be complete by Dec. 31, 2019," the US DoD said.

"This contract is 100 percent foreign military sales to Germany. This award is the result of a sole-source acquisition. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity," the US DoD added.

The German head-of-state and VIPs actually fly four Bombardier Global 5000 operated by the Luftwaffe's Special Air Mission Wing MoD in Cologne, Germany.


The AN/AAQ-24(V) LAIRCM is a directed infra red (IR) countermeasures system, designed to safeguard large transport and rotary-wing aircraft from a range of IR-guided missile threats, using a laser pointer-tracker. AN/AAQ-24(v) LAIRCM system consists of a missile warning system (AN/AAR-54), an integration unit, a processor, and laser turrets (Small Laser Transmitter Assembly, SLTA).
