Russia's Western Military District Air Regiment starts receiving Su-35S fighter jets
 
An air regiment in the Western military district of Russia received a batch of Su-35S multipurpose fighter jets, the press service of the district said. "Pilots, engineers and technicians of the air regiment of the district completed the acceptance of the first batch of multipurpose Su-35S fighter jets at the producer enterprise in Komsomolsk-on-Amur," it said.

"At present the pilots are preparing to fly the aircraft to the permanent deployment base in the Republic of Karelia (Besovets airbase - TASS) while engineers and technicians began to accept the second batch of the aircraft," the press service added.

The Su-35S is a Russian multipurpose super maneuverable aircraft of generation 4++ with steerable thrusters. It can fly at a maximum speed of 2500 kilometers per hour at a range of up to 3400 kilometers and a combat radius of 1600 kilometers. The fighter jet is armed with a 30-mm caliber gun and has 12 bomb and missile suspension points.

The S variant is the designation of production Su-35BM single-seat fighter for the Russian Air Force. Russia places a new order for 50 additionnal Su-35S fighters in January 2016, for an estimated amount of $1.4 bn. As of November 2016, Russia has 52 Su-35S fighters in inventory.
