BAE Systems wins a $49 mn contract to support USAF Solid State Phased Array Radar System
 
BAE Systems Technology Solutions and Services has received a $49.6 million contract from the US Air Force to manage, operate and maintain advanced radar systems at five key strategic missile warning bases around the world, the US Department of Defense announced on May 26, 2016.

Work will be performed at Beale Air Force Base, California; Cape Cod Air Force Station, Massachusetts; Clear Air Force Station, Alaska; Thule Air Base, Greenland; and Royal Air Force Fylingdales, United Kingdom, the US Defense Department noted.

These sites provide the U.S. Air Force with capabilities such as sea-launched ballistic missile warning; ballistic missile early warning and space surveillance; ground-based midcourse defense programs; maintenance for military satellite communications systems; communications-electronic systems; and precision measurement equipment calibration and maintenance.

The Solid State Phased Array Radar System - SSPARS - is a USAF radar, computer, and communications system for missile warning and space surveillance. The whole system is managed U.S. Air Force’s 21st Space Wing — the Air Force unit responsible for providing missile warning and space surveillance awareness in defense of the United States and its allies.
