"Along with the traditional cargo transport and border security tasks, the new Mi-171Sh helicopters are going to be used on UN humanitarian missions and on missions in crime-infested areas. Bangladesh has received the Mi-171Sh’s within the framework of a government-issued loan for the acquisition of Russian-made military hardware," Russian Helicopters said in a news release.

According to the news release, the helicopters were ordered in 2013. The aircraft are fitted with advanced avionics, including a sophisticated flight/navigation suite. In addition, the Mi-171Sh’s carry extra fuel cells, a searchlight, a hoist with a lifting capacity of 150 kg, extra armor protection and a weapons suite. Each of them can evacuate 12 casualties owing to the newly installed medical equipment.

"The choice made by our partners is well-thought-out and clear, because the Mi-171Sh is ideal for the aforesaid missions in the geographic and climatic conditions of the Republic of Bangladesh. In addition, our helicopter features high reliability and the ease of maintenance," Ulan-Ude Aircraft Plant Managing Director Leonid Belykh said.
The Mi-171Sh is a military transport helicopter designed to carry troops and materiel, destroy moving and stationary pinpoint surface targets and kill enemy personnel round the clock and in any weather. It carries 37 troops, or 4,000 kg of cargo or 12 casualties on the stretchers.
