“We are currently working on the new-generation missile, the BrahMos NG. Work on the design is in progress now. We will carry out the design review at NPO Mashinostroeniya in Moscow. And we hope that we will start the qualification trials within 1-1.5 years. Let’s say in 2023 or early 2024,” Rane said.

According to him, the new missile weighs almost half as much as the ordinary BrahMos missile. “We are trying to reach the 1,330 kg mark. Its flight range will be the same — 300 km. We want it to be launchable from any aircraft in service in India,” the CEO said.

The BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile produced by the Russian-Indian Joint Venture BrahMos Aerospace. The missile has been jointly developed by Russia’s Research and Production Association of Machine-Building (NPO Mashinostroeniya) and India’s Defense Research and Development Organization. The first test launch of the BrahMos missile took place in 2001. Its different versions are operational with India’s Navy, Air Force and Army.
