“A flight of Su-30SM2 fighters has arrived at an airfield in Chernyakhovsk in the Kaliningrad Region. The planes have joined a composite air regiment of the Baltic Fleet’s air arm,” the press office said.

The planes were accepted at the manufacturing plant in Irkutsk in East Siberia and performed a multi-kilometer flight to the Kaliningrad Region.

“The delivery of the new planes will considerably increase the Baltic Fleet’s combat potential. The pilots have already undergone training and will start to practice operating the new aircraft in the imminent future,” the press office quoted Western Military District Commander Colonel General Alexander Zhuravlyov as saying.

Imported equipment was replaced with domestic one. The fighter jet has a better optical-electronic sight, electronic warfare, and radar with a bigger detection range. The list of air-to-air, air-to-surface weapons has been expanded to fight air and ground targets, including radar and sea targets at a bigger distance. In 2016-2018, the regiment received eight Su-30SM aircraft.
