The successful air test (flight test) was conducted at 10.30 am on March 05, 2021 from the Integrated Test Site at Chandipur, Odisha Coast. All subsystems, including its booster motor and nozzle laser motor, performed as expected. During the test, many new technologies were proven, including solid-fueled Ramjet technology.

DRDO has found a new technology advantage after the successful testing of solid-fueled Ramjet technology. So that it can help develop long-range missiles that can be launched from the air. Only a handful of countries around the world now have the technology available. In addition, due to the nozzle-free booster, it is possible to coordinate with a large number of Ramjet operations.

The missile was monitored with the help of electro-optical, radar and telemetry equipment deployed by the ITR. This ensured the success of the mission goal. The launch was attended by senior scientists from various DRDO laboratories, including the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), the Research Center Building (RCI) and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).

Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO scientists, the Indian Air Force and the industry for the successful testing of the SFDR.

Secretary of the Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman of the DRDO, Drs. 4. Satish Reddy also congratulated the team involved in this successful test.
