Turkey and USA fly over Russia


A joint Turkish-US mission is staging a monitoring flight over Russia on October 14-18 according to the Open Sky Treaty on a Turkish CN-235 surveillance aircraft from Kubinka airfield, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Russian experts onboard monitor strict compliance with agreed flight parameters and the engagement of equipment envisaged by the treaty," it said.

CN-235 cannot carry weapons. Its equipment has been internationally certified also by Russian experts which rules out the use of devices not stipulated by the treaty.

The CASA/IPTN CN-235 is a medium-range twin-engined transport aircraft that was jointly developed by Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (CASA) of Spain and Indonesian manufacturer IPTN, as a regional airliner and military transport. Its primary military roles include maritime patrol, surveillance, and air transport. Its largest user is Turkey, which has 59 aircraft.
