UAV battalion formed at 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan


A new battalion of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has been formed at the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan, the press service of the Central Military District (TsVO) said.

"New Orlan-10 drones, which are in service with the battalion, have increased the combat capabilities of motorized rifle and artillery units in Tajikistan. The UAVs conduct air reconnaissance, detect targest and adjust artillery fire in real time at maximum distances of up to 120 kilometers," TsVO said.

The UAV crews will get down to special training with the start of a new training period.

The 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan is the largest Russian military facility outside the national borders. It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. The base will remain in Tajikistan until 2042 under an agreement signed in October 2012.
