New VRT300 "Arctic drone" emerges at MAKS 2017
The Russian Helicopters company for the first time displayed at MAKS 2017 air show the prototypes of helicopter drones VRT300 designed by the VP-Technologies Company, the press service of the holding said on Wednesday.

"Arctic development is very vital today. For example, shipping companies which plan year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route need constant monitoring of the ice situation. Technical solutions used in VRT300 can measure ice thickness in advance and optimize the navigation route according to obtained data," said Russian Helicopters CEO Andrei Boginsky.

The VRT300 was designed and demonstrated at MAKS-2017 in two options: Arctic Supervision with side-view radar for ice reconnaissance and operations in the Arctic, and Opticvision with extended range for monitoring and remote sensing.

VRT300 Supervision priority missions include the development of the transportation system of the Northern Sea Route and assistance in Arctic development. The craft has side-view high-resolution onboard radar operating in the X-band which rapidly assesses the dynamic of the ice situation. A diesel engine and seaborne capabilities make the VRT300 Arctic version irreplaceable for icebreakers and drilling platforms.

Due to a big payload of 70 kilograms the drone can transport various cargoes, such as food and medicines from a ship to the Polar station and back. The craft can also measure ice thickness along the navigation route, engage in search-and-rescue operations at sea and determine the size of major ice fields suitable for scientific Polar stations.

According to VR-Technologies, the VRT300 has a maximum speed of 180km/h and an operational range of 150km.

The VRT300 Opticvision is designated to develop the systems of diagnostics, warning and elimination of emergency situations in production and transportation of energy resources. Other missions include diagnostics of electricity transmission air lines, mapping, cargo transportation, search operations, as well as monitoring of the environment, roads and coastal infrastructure objects. The drone is equipped with a mobile control panel which is also demonstrated at MAKS-2017.
