Russian Mi-28N makes emergency landing in Syria following technical failure
 
A Mi-28N attack helicopter of Russia`s Aerospace Forces (VKS) has made an emergency landing in Hama province, Syria due to a technical malfunction. There are no threats to the pilots, according to Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD).

"On October 6, a Mi-28N helicopter made an emergency landing in Hama province (Syria) due to a technical malfunction. The helicopter was escorting a Mi-8 helicopter with the servicemen of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in the Syrian Arab Republic," the MoD said in a statement.

The crew of the Mi-28N helicopter was not injured. A search-and-rescue team rapidly transported pilots to the Humaymim airbase. The report of the crew and the checkout of the rotorcraft showed that the helicopter had not been engaged.

Previously, a number of media outlets distributed the message of the Islamic State (IS, forbidden in Russia) terroristic grouping, in accordance with which the militants in the eastern part of Hama province had shot down a Russian military helicopter.

In April 2016, one Mil Mi-28N strike helicopter of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed in Syria due to "human factor", a source in the Russian Aerospace Forces then stated.

The Mi-28N helicopter gunships were used by the Russian military during the Palmyra city liberation operation. In particular, these rotorcraft used anti-tank guided missiles to destroy terrorists’ armored vehicles.

Mi-28N Night Hunter is an attack helicopter armed with a 30-mm cannon, guided missiles and rockets. The Night Hunter can locate and destroy armored vehicles, personnel, small surface ships, and low-speed air targets and fortifications, as well as lay mine fields day or night in adverse weather conditions.
