Russian Helicopters' Ka-62 medium multirole chopper to fly before year-end
 
The flight tests of the new Ka-62 helicopter will begin this year, Sergey Yemelyanov, Director of the Aviation Industry Department at Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, said Tuesday. "This year, we expect that it will perform its first full-fledged flight. Last year, it performed a hovering test, this year a full-fledged flight and the beginning of flight tests will take place," Yemelyanov said in reply to the relevant question.

The Ka-62 is an advanced multipurpose helicopter being developed by JSC Kamov around its Ka-60 military helicopter. It has been developed to perform a wide range of operations, in particular, the transportation of passengers, rescue operations, works in the interests of the oil and gas industry. The helicopter can carry up to 15 people or 2.5 tons of cargo.

Russian Helicopters' Ka-62 will have a max speed of 308 km/h, an flight range of 770 km/h and an operational ceiling of 5,700 m.

The Ka-62 is fitted with two Ardiden 3G 1,680 h.p. engines made by Turbomeca. Their modular design and dual-channel FADEC system ensures high reliability, heightened ease of operation, and low fuel use. The helicopter is also equipped with a glass cockpit developed by the Russian company Transas.

The Ka-62 adopts a single-rotor design with a multi-blade anti-torque rotor ducted into the vertical tail fin. It has a five-bladed main rotor, enclosed tail rotor, secondary hydraulics circuit, heavy-duty wheeled landing gear, strengthened fuselage and mounting attachments for major components, as well as shock-absorbent seats for passengers and crew.

The airframe and propeller blades will be over 50% made of polymeric composite materials.

The Ka-62 is designed for cargo transportation, medevac and search and rescue operations, and can also be used in the oil and gas sector and for corporate purposes.
