Turkish military's Anka UAV performed first reconnaissance flight
 
Turkish Aerospace Industries' Anka UAV carried out its first reconnaissance flight in Turkey on February 5th, 2016. The aircraft carried it out west of Elazig, located in Eastern Anatolia. According to the Turkish Defense Ministry, the site of the reconnaissance mission was strategic.

"We are currently doing a very critical thing, struggling against terror," said Turkish Deputy Defense Minister Suay Alpay. "Our struggle will continue with determination until the last terrorist leaves this country and the weapons are taken from [them]. All elements of the defense industry will support and strengthen this struggle."


There is no information about what kind of data the aircraft collected. It is know that the flight took place at a height of 5800 meters, and its duration was nearly four hours, Interfax reports.

Anka, advanced Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) class Unmanned Aerial System, performs day and night, all-weather reconnaissance, target detection / identification and intelligence missions with its EO/IR and SAR payloads, featuring autonomous flight capability including Automatic Take-off and Landing.

Anka incorporates a heavy-fuel engine and electro-expulsive Ice Protection System with an Advanced Ground Control Station and dual datalink allowing operational security and ease. The Anka has an endurance of 24 hours, a service ceiling of 30,000 ft and a data range of 200 km.
