CAE to provide Canadian and US armed forces with training systems and services
 
CAE has been awarded a series of contracts with a combined value of C$115m ($104m) to provide a range of training systems and services for the Royal Canadian Air Force, US Air Force and US Army.
     

CAE will continue to perform training services to USAF MQ-9 and MQ-1 UAVs' crews
     

Under the first contract, CAE USA will continue the provision of MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft aircrew training services and courseware development to the US Air Force (USAF).

The award, which is the exercise of a contract option, covers the provision of classroom, simulator and live flying instruction for more than 1,500 trainees at Holloman Air Force Base (AFB), Creech AFB, March Air Reserve Base and Hancock Air National Guard Base, US.

Awarded by the Canadian Government, the second contract requires the company to perform a major visual system update on the Royal Canadian Air Force's CP-140 full-flight simulator (FFS).

The upgrade would include the integration of the latest generation CAE Medallion-6000 image generator and new display system to deliver superior image quality.

CAE will also be implementing the common database (CDB) architecture capability on the CP-140 FFS to help enhance the RCAF's ability to correlate, re-use and rapidly update databases to support training and mission rehearsal requirements.

"The RCAF is increasingly leveraging synthetic training to accomplish a greater portion of their overall training."
CAE Canada vice-president and general manager Mike Greenley said: "The visual system update for the CP-140 simulator will provide the Royal Canadian Air Force with enhanced capabilities and flexibility in addressing their CP-140 training requirements.

"The RCAF is increasingly leveraging synthetic training to accomplish a greater portion of their overall training, and the new visual system combined with the Common Database capability will help offload training from operational aircraft and reduce training costs."

Under a third contract with Airbus Defense and Space, the company will manufacture the second UH-72A Lakota synthetic flight training system (SFTS) that will support rotary wing pilot training at the US Army's Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE).

Featuring a helicopter specific cockpit and the CAE Medallion-6000 image generator-driven 200° x 70° field-of-view display system, the SFTS is scheduled to be delivered to Ft Rucker, Alabama in 2015.
