With its participation in this project, Indonesia could replace a number of existing aircraft, as well as increase Indonesian Air Force capabilities. After having considered numerous versions, Indonesia chose a twin-engined, single seat design dubbed "C103" earlier this year. Technical development of C103 Block I is now complete, but Indonesian Military are already thinking about Block II, which could involves the development of a weapons bay.

The C103 Block I design includes 10 weapon hard-points with a maximal capacity of 16,000 lb. Four other are beneath the fuselage for semi-conformal carriage or AMRAAM-class air-to-air missiles. C103 will have a wing area of 460ft2 and an aspect ratio of 2.7.

The two turbofans will provide more than 36,000 lb of thrust. While the future engine has not been chosen yet, engineers are currently considering two options: the F-414 of General Electric, which is mounted on Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, and the Eurojet EJ200, which is already fitted on the Eurofighter Typhoon. Final decision is expected for the first year of the development phase.

Indonesia could order at least 30 C103 (IF-X), while South Korea seems to agree on 120 KF-X fighter jets.
