A Russian airbase for Sukhoi Su-27 fighter aircraft is to be set up in Belarus in 2016, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Air Force Viktor Bondarev said Wednesday, October 15.

A Russian Air Force base will be created in 2016. It will hold Su-27 fighter aircraft,” Bondarev told journalists during a working visit to construction projects of the Russian Air Force.

The Russian fighter jets will be based at a military airfield in the city of Bobruisk, Bondarev said, adding that a technical plan for the field’s reconstruction is already in place.

The Sukhoi Su-27 (NATO reporting name: Flanker) is a twin-engine fighter aircraft designed by the Russian Company Sukhoi.
