Russian Southern Military District received six Ka-52 attack helicopters


The army aviation of the Russian Southern Military District has received six Ka-52 reconnaissance strike helicopters, Vadim Astafyev, the district’s press service chief, said.

"In accordance with the plan of retooling the troops of the Southern Military District two military units in the Rostov region and the Krasnodar territory have received six new Ka-52 strike helicopters," Astafyev said.

Airlifters delivered the helicopters from the manufacturing plant to the home airfield in parts. They will be assembled on the spot soon. All the air staff, engineers and technicians have been retrained to handle Ka-52 at the Russian Defense Ministry Center of combat training and retraining of the army aviation staff.

Ka-52 reconnaissance helicopter gunships (Hokum-B by NATO classification) are designed to destroy armored hardware, troops and low-speed air targets. The helicopter can engage in combat in any time of the day and weather conditions. The crew comprises two men sitting side-by-side in a single cockpit. The set of Ka-52 armaments comprises unguided and precision weapons, including antitank guided missiles. The helicopter is armed with a 30mm gun. Ka-52 can operate in any weather, hot climate, mountains and the Arctic.
