Russian pilots start training on new Il-76MD-90A transport aircraft
|

In January 2016 the flight operation of the first Il-76MD-90A began in with the Russian Military transport aviation (MTA). Pilots of MTA center in Ivanovo began exploring the new heavy military carrier. Commander of MTA Vladimir Benediktov and Head of Ivanovo Aviation Center Igor Matveev participated in the first flights.

The new heavy military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A Victor Livanov came into service at Ivanovo Aviation Center in December 2015, which became a landmark for the Russian Military transport aviation. MTA lays high hopes on the new aircraft, because it is superior to its predecessors in reliability, range, fuel efficiency and cargo-carrying capacity.

The Il-76MD-90A is equipped with a new flight and navigation complex, autopilot, communication system, “glass” cockpit, which meet all modern requirements to avionics and substantially improve flight safety, precision of navigation and airdropping. Replacement of standard D-30KP-2 engines with the modern PS-90A-76, wing modification and reinforced landing gear increase operational capabilities of the aircraft. The engine, manufactured in Perm, corresponds with all ICAO noise and emission standards, which allows the aircraft to fly all over the world without restrictions.
The Il-76MD-90A is developed by Ilyushin Aviation Complex, which forms a part of UAC. Engineering documentation was created with a new design technology in the form of 3D digital models of all parts of airframe. |

The aircraft is created on the basis of the production Il-76MD for further improvement of this type of aircraft and enhancement of their transport capabilities. The Il-76MD-90A has all the advantages of its predecessor, but can carry more cargo for longer distance with better fuel efficiency.
The aircraft that came into service with Ivanovo Aviation Center, as agreed by Command of MTA of the Russian Military Space Forces, was named after Victor Livanov, OJSC “Il” General Director – General Designer from 2006 to 2014, General Designer of aviation systems of the Russian transport aviation from 2012 to 2014, Laureate of State Prize of the Russian Federation for science and technology, Doctor of Economics. |

At present the Il-76MD-90A is manufactured at Aviastar-SP factory in Ulyanovsk. The decision to move production of the Il-76 from Tashkent to Ulyanovsk was made in 2006. In 2012 the first Russian Il-76MD-90A made its maiden flight.
The biggest contract in the history of modern Russian aviation industry between the Ministry of Defense and UAC – Transport aircraft for supply of heavy military-transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A was signed in 2012. |
