Cessna wins a $55mn contract for Iraqi Air Force C-208s Caravan fleet support
 
The US-based aircraft manufacturer Cessna Aircraft Co.has been awarded a $55,268,755 contract for the Afghanistan Trainer Program. Cessna will provide interim contractor support of 18 C-208B aircraft and one C-208 aircrew training device, including maintenance and training, the US Department of Defense announced on Jan. 21, 2016.

This contract will be performed at Kabul Air Base and Kandahar Air Base, Afghanistan, and is expected to be complete by July 31, 2017. This contract is 100 percent foreign military sales to the country of Afghanistan.

Among its 18 C-208B light transport aircraft, the Iraqi Air Force operates three AC-208 Combat Caravan gunship aircraft modified by the US company ATK.

Apart from the three AC-208Bs, the Iraqi Air Force flies 3 RC-208B reconnaissance aircraft, officially attached to the 3rd Reconnaissance Squadron at Kirkuk, and 5 C-208B trainers.
