Russia's Eastern Military District takes delivery of two new Su-35S multirole fighter aircraft

Two Sukhoi Su-35S (NATO reporting name: Flanker-E+) multirole fighters will have been received by the Eastern Military District’s air regiment stationed in the Primorsky Territory in the coming days, the district’s press officer, Colonel Alexander Gordeyev, told journalists on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

"Pilots have converted to the advanced combat aircraft type at a unit in the Khabarovsk Territory. Now, ground crews are preparing the advanced aircraft for a ferry flight from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to the Primorsky Territory," he added.

According to Gordeyev, both fighters will be ferried to their home station once the paperwork has been handled and check rides slated for this week have been performed.

It was reported in late December 2015 that the Eastern Military District’s air regiment in the Khabarovsk Territory had started using its cutting-edge Su-35S fighters in the air defense role.

The Su-35S is a heavily upgraded Generation 4++ supermaneuverable multirole fighter embodying some of the fifth-generation aircraft technologies. It features a sophisticated avionics suite based on a digital information management system, an advanced long-range aerial target acquisition radar with an increased simultaneous multiple-target engagement capability, and enhanced-power swiveling-nozzle engines.
