China to get first batch of Su-35 fighter jets by Christmas
|

Russia will have supplied China with the first four of the Sukhoi Su-35 (NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) fighter jets on order before December 25 this year, a source in Russia’s arms export bodies has told TASS. "The first four of the Su-35s are to arrive in China before December 25," the source said.

According to him, the delivery was supposed to be kicked off next year, but a decision has been made to speed it up, with the first batch to go this year.
In November, Vladimir Drozhzhov, deputy director, Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, told TASS that Russia had started carrying out the first stage of the China-awarded order for the fighters. Russia and China made a deal for 24 Su-35 fighters in November 2014. The contract is valued at $2 billion at the least. It also covers relevant ground equipment and spare engines. The above source close to arms export had told TASS previously that the contract would be executed inside three years. The governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, home to the Su-35’s manufacturer, the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant, had said previously that the plant would deliver four aircraft before year-end, but Rostec Director General Sergei Chemezov said later that there would be no Su-35 deliveries to china in 2016. The Su-35 is a radically modernized version of the Su-27 aircraft to significantly enhance its combat effectiveness against aerial, ground and sea tagets. The aircraft is fitted with the Luylka AL-31FM turbofan engine which is larger, more reliable and, with a thrust of 28,200 lbf, more powerful than those found on the Su-27. |
