Pratt & Whitney gets a $1bn contract from US military for additional F135 engines

|
The US military ordered more than $1 billion worth of new jet engines for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. "Pratt & Whitney Military Engines is being awarded a $1,038,074,689 modification to the previously awarded advance acquisition contract for the Lot IX low-rate initial production F-35 Lightning II Propulsion contract for the Air Force, Navy/Marine Corps, international partners and foreign military sales (FMS) customers," the US DoD said on April 11.

This contract provides for components, parts and materials associated with the procurement of 28 F135-PW-100 conventional take-off and landing propulsion systems for the US Air Force; six F135-PW-600 propulsion systems for the US Marine Corps; and four F135-PW-100 propulsion systems for the US Navy. In addition, this contract provides for seven each F135-PW-100 and F135-PW-600 propulsion systems for international partners, as well as 11 F135-PW-100 spare propulsion systems for FMS customers.
The contract announced yesterday finalizes part of an agreement that Pratt & Whitney reached with the U.S. Defense Department in January for more than $3.0 billion in two separate contracts - a ninth batch of 66 F135 engines and a 10th batch of 101 engines. The $1.04 billion contract comes on top of $360 million in funding that had already been awarded to Pratt & Whitney to sustain the F135 engine production line. To date, Pratt & Whitney has delivered 273 production engines for the advanced new stealth fighter. |
