Irkut receives new order from Russia for 30 Su-30SM fighter jets
 
Within the implementation of Russia's State Defence Order for 2016-2018, the country's Defence Ministry has concluded a new contract with the aircraft manufacturer Irkut corporation for Su-30SM aircraft deliveries, the Russian MoD announced on its website on April 3, 2016.

According to the conditions of the contract, the Russian Aerospace Forces are to receive over 30 multi-purpose fighters Su-30SM by the end of the year 2018. The contract for the supply was signed by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov and President of Irkut Corporation Oleg Demchenko.

The aircraft Su-30SM is a multi-purpose “4++”-generation highly-maneuverable fighter designed for achievement of air supremacy. The aircraft made its maiden flight on 21 September 2012.

The SU-30SM is a specialised version of the thrust-vectoring Su-30MKI and MKM variants for the designed for the Russian military. The new version has been upgraded based on Russian military requirements for radar, radio communications systems, friend-or-foe identification system, ejection seats, weapons, and other aircraft systems.The aircraft is equipped with the Bars-R radar and the wide-angle HUD.
