Lockheed Martin to supply Royal Jordanian Air Force with Sniper Advanced Targeting Pods
 
Lockheed Martin recently received a contract to deliver Sniper Advanced Targeting Pods (ATP) to the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) in support of urgent operational requirements. Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver 10 Sniper ATPs and provide integration support beginning later this year. The RJAF is currently conducting precision-strike missions with five Sniper ATPs it acquired in 2014.

Sniper ATPs enable the RJAF to perform long-range target detection and identification and continuous stabilized surveillance for all missions, including close air support of ground forces,” said Rich Lovette, Sniper ATP international program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “Using an accelerated delivery schedule, we will provide our allied air force with this essential capability to meet its urgent operational needs.

It is already the third export contract signed by Lockheed Martin since the beginning of this year. Last month, the Romanian Air Force (RoAF) and Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) selected Lockheed Martin's Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) for their F-16 fleets, becoming the 18th and 19th international customers to receive this advanced sensor capability.

Sniper ATP detects, identifies, automatically tracks and laser-designates small tactical targets at long ranges. It also supports employment of all laser and GPS-guided weapons against multiple fixed and moving targets. Sniper ATP’s interoperability enables coalition air forces to use the pod across multiple platforms, including U.S. Air Force and multinational F-15, F-16, F-18, A-10, B-1 and B-52 aircraft.


The Sniper pod incorporates a multi-spectral sensor capability with a high-resolution, medium-wave third-generation FLIR and a CCD-TV. Advanced sensors, combined with advanced image processing algorithms and rock-steady stabilization produce target identification ranges that permit operations minimizing exposure to many threat systems. The dual-mode laser offers an eye safe mode for urban combat and training operations, along with a laser-guided bomb designation laser for guiding in these precision munitions.
