Russia to start test phase of the upgraded Mi-28NM attack helicopter "in a near future"
 
Testing of the latest upgraded Mi-28NM attack helicopter will be started in Russia soon, Russian state owned media RIA Novosti reported with reference to Russian Helicopters Deputy CEO Andrei Shibitov. According to him, the helicopter will be integrated with UAVs. «Testing of the latest version of Mi-28 helicopter – Mi-28NM, will be started soon. It is the upgraded version. Testing will be started in the near-term,» Shibitov said.

Shibitov also noted that the new version will be “adapted for work under network-centric conditions, it will be fully integrated into the global data transfer system by all channels (video, target position, etc.)».

«Moreover, it will be integrated with UAVs. This vehicle will be ready to face technical challenges determined by the present market requirements and even more strict requirements of our customer,» the Deputy CEO said.

It was reported that development of Mi-28NM was started in 2008 and the vehicle will differ much from Mi-28N Night Hunter.

In 2013 Andrei Shibitov said that development of a prototype and start of its testing will take “three years or less”. So today the program is on schedule.

Specific characteristics of the Mi-28NM attack helicopter are not known, but may include a low radar signature, extended range, advanced weapons control systems, air-to-air engagement capability, and increased top speed of 600 km/h (370 mph).
