Peruvian Air Force finalizes purchase of a second batch of two C-27J Spartan military airlifters
 
In accordance with a recent announcement by Peruvian Defense Minister Peter Cateriano Bellido, Material Command of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) has completed the purchasing process for a second batch of two C-27J Spartan multirole military transport aircraft, manufactured by the Italian company Alenia Aermacchi.

The two planes are acquired through an international contract valued at 356,700,000 million soles, equivalent to $120 million. The first two units were purchased in December 2013 and are currently in final stages of assembly.

The C-27J is an advanced derivative of Alenia Aeronautica's G.222 (C-27A Spartan in US service), with the engines and systems of the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules. The C-27J can fly with a maximum speed of 602km/h. The maximum cruise and stall speed of the aircraft are 583km/h and 194km/h respectively. Its range is 1,852km. The ferry range and service ceiling are 5,926km and 9,144m respectively.

Acquired as replacement of the ageing Antonov An-32 transport aircraft, the Spartan incorporate sufficient power (two engines of 4,637 SHP each) and capacity (max. 13t payload) to climb the Andes in such a combination that makes its capabilities in operational cost efficiency, according to the FAP's typical transport missions.
