KAI signs with Thai Air Force to upgrade T-50TH supersonic trainer jets


South Korea’s largest defense company Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) won a ($50.6 million contract worth from the Royal Thai Air Force to upgrade T-50TH supersonic trainer jets, the company announced on May 26.

The KAI T-50 Golden Eagle is a family of South Korean supersonic advanced trainers and light combat aircraft, developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) with Lockheed Martin. The T-50 is South Korea's first indigenous supersonic aircraft and one of the world's few supersonic trainers.

“We will prove ourselves worthy of confidence of the Thai Air Force with outstanding quality and technical skills,” said Kim Jo-won, chief executive of KAI. Thai Air Marshal Bhanupong Seyayongka said that the Thai air force has a strong confidence in T-50TH that has high cost effectiveness and he expects to maintain a close partnership with KAI.
