Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have test fired a new anti-ballistic missile at Sary-Shagan range in Kazakhstan, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The new anti-ballistic missile has verified its preprogrammed characteristics and has successfully accomplished the assigned mission by hitting a conditional target with a given accuracy," the ministry said.

The missile defense system, which is in service with the Russian Aerospace Forces, is designed to repel strikes delivered by air and space attack means
