Mi-26T2V rotorcraft to receive Vitebsk DIRCM system


Russia`s newest Mil Mi-26T2V (NATO reporting name: Halo) heavy transport rotorcraft will be fitted with the L-370 Vitebsk direct infrared countermeasures (DIRCM) system, according to the press department of the state corporation Rostec.

"In order to enhance protection against surface-to-air missiles, including those launched by man-portable air defense systems, the Mi-26T2V has received the Vitebsk DIRCM system developed by the Samara-based Ekran [Screen] scientific-and-research institute [a subsidiary of Rostec`s Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET)].

The devices of the Vitebsk detect an incoming missile and suppress it, creating noising signals and decoy targets. Therefore, the complex mistargets hostile weapons. The Vitebsk DIRCM system increases a helicopter`s electronic protection in a substantial manner," said a representative of Rostec.

"The Vitebsk can be used as either electronic warfare device or electronic intelligence unit," added the source.
The Mi-26T2V is a variant of the export-oriented Mil Mi-26T2 (Halo), which is intended for Russian Aerospace Forces (Vozdushno-Kosmicheskiye Sily, VKS).
