The attack that occurred overnight Tuesday, targeted also a Syrian site near the Lebanese border; a Syrian military statement said the Israeli attack destroyed a military research center northwest of Damascus. The Syrians denied a shipment of such weapons taking place. They appeared to be referring to the same incident. The strike destroyed the center and damaged a nearby building, killing two workers and wounding five others, the Syrian statement said.

The arms convoy that Israel reportedly attacked last night along the Syria-Lebanon border carried SA-17 missiles, among other things, according to foreign sources.

The Buk-M2E (NATO name SA-17 Grizzly) is a russian made mobile medium-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system designed to defend field troops and logistical installations against air threats.

The Buk-M2 (SA-17) can engage a wide variety of targets from aircraft to missiles flying at an altitude of between 10 and 24,000 m out a maximum range of 50 km in given conditions. The SA-17 Grizzly can engage simultaneous of up to 24 targets flying from any direction.
